The New Practical Builder

£99.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

This large book was published in the 1820s. It gives a detailed account of house building and architecture. The seventeen chapters include such subjects as the Elements of Geometry and the Five Orders of Architecture as well as Carpentry, Joinery and Bricklaying. There is also a glossary of technical terms and a general index. The 597 page book is followed by another 180 pages entitled 'The Practical Builder's Perpetual Price-Book'. The book has numerous detailed and impressive architectural and geometrical engravings.
The book has apparently been rebound or repaired at some later date. The cloth covered boards and spine are discoloured in places and show signs of wear mainly along the edges and corners. There is foxing of the pages, particularly of the illustrated pages. The contents page at the front of the book is creased and the corners are damaged. There is no title page. The last few pages of the book are also rather grubby and there is damage to the corners. The rest of the pages are in generally good condition with little or no signs of damage.
