The Picture Story of Lorna Doone (1933 1st Edition)

£18.99

Product description

The Picture Story of Lorna Doone

Classic story retold for children by Agnes M. Papé, with illustrations throughout by Frank C. Papé.

1933 1st edition, hardback, published by John Lane The Bodley Head Limited.

Boards are covered in blue cloth and are in good condition with very little signs of wear on the edges and corners. There is no jacket. The spine is good but significantly sun-bleached and there is a tear in the cloth of approx 30mm between the spine and the lower right of the front board. The binding is sound.

The end papers are printed and there is a colour illustration opposite the title page. All pages are good with slight foxing only on the reverse of the one colour illustration. However all pages show significant browning towards the edges. The paper is unglossed (except for the colour illustration) and there are black-and-white illustrations on each page.

Two of the introductory illustrations (one of Lorna Doone, the other of John Ridd) have been hand coloured, presumably by a child, although the result is actually quite charming.

On the front fly leaf is a handwritten name (presumed former owner) and the remains of a coloured label which has been largely removed.

Inspection of the images provided is recommended.

176 pages. Approx size 240mm x 170mm.
