A worn but complete first edition copy of this 19th century attempt to make Bunyan's classic accessible "for eyes (young or old) which are just beginning to spell their way into literature".

Brown cloth, gilt pictorial titles, black stamped borders. Edgeworn, small losses spine ends, back spine edge split + 2 transverse splits. Binding shaken, no loose pages. Page edges browned, a few small marks but text and plates largely spared. Name/dates (1874, 1899) and gift inscription front pastedown and ffeps, plus remains of sticker and small nick ffep. 335pp + 16pp publisher's catalogue to rear; 9 colour plates (unattributed).
