The Saints in Art

£24.99

Product description

The full title is "Ikonographie der Heiligen. The Saints in Art. " It was originally written by Joseph Maria Ernst Christian Wilhelm von Radowitz (February 6, 1797 – 25 December 1853) and published in 1834. A second edition, substantially enlarged, was produced in 1852. Von Radowitz was a Prussian soldier and diplomat and a Catholic convert. This translation was accomplished by Christopher Benson. The manuscript was lost for some years before publication and eventually came into the hands of his wife, Agnes, after Benson's death. She published this, after some modifications and amendments, in 1898.
It is a concise but comprehensive list of Saints and their attributes, Patron saints of various categories of beneficiaries., Emblems of angels and a chapter on the more extended symbolism of Christian Art

Victoria Printing Press hardback with no DJ. Blue cloth covered boards with gilt lettering to front and (rather faded) to spine. There is wear of the top and bottom of the spine, some bleaching and two horizontal cracks. A little generalised tanning of pages but no marks and the binding is good.

You can find many print on demand copies but this is the real deal
