Chatto & Windus, London, 1892, first edition thus, hardback, no dust-wrapper, pp lxviii + 272, 48 illustrations.

James Thomson was an eighteen century poet and this book includes two of his works: "The Seasons", for which he is perhaps best known, and "The Castle of Indolence", originally described as an "Allegorical Poem Written in Imitation of Spenser". The book includes a 68 page biographical introduction by Allan Cunningham.

Good condition. Red half-cloth binding with marbled paper boards . Edges of paper boards are chipped and rubbed and there is a scrape to the front of the cloth half-binding. Front hinge is weak but binding otherwise secure. Pages are tanned but otherwise clean. Ffep shows varied darkening and has an ownership inscription.

We are a specialist shop nestled in the heart of Jesmond, a lovely residential area of Newcastle Upon Tyne. We opened in July 2010 and have on offer 5,000 books, 2,000 records, CDs and games as well as sheet music, cards and stationery within the shop. Our shop has high ceilings and a nice, bright and airy feel. We are gaining a very good reputation in the Rare and Collectable books and vinyl community, but also do a roaring trade in contemporary fiction and modern non-fiction. We also organise live music and book events and aim to be a hub of culture in this wonderfully tight-knit community.
