The Story of Sylvie and Bruno - Lewis Carroll

£19.99

Product description

Published in 1910 by Macmillan and Co. Illustrated with black & white line drawings by Harry Furniss.

This is one of Lewis Carroll's lesser known works, first published in this edition in 1904. The story was originally published in two volumes (1889 & 1893) but with the author's agreement the 'extraneous matter' was deleted leaving the story of the two fairy children in one volume. The original novel has two main plots: one set in the real world at the time the book was published (the Victorian era), the other in the fantasy world of Fairyland. While the latter plot is a fairy tale with many nonsense elements and poems, similar to Carroll's Alice books, the story set in Victorian Britain is a social novel, with its characters discussing various concepts and aspects of religion, society, philosophy and morality.

This is a delightful story that will be enjoyed by any Lewis Carroll fan.

There is some rubbing edge-wear on the cover but the internal pages are in a good clean condition other than a small amount of foxing on the end papers.
