The Struggles and Adventures of Richard Tadpole at home and abroad

£45.00

Product description

Pub Willoughby & Co London. Undated but believed to be a First edition from around 1850. Half red Morocco leather over maroon cloth boards. Five raised bands on spine with black label with gold lettering and gold decoration on the bands. Marbled page edges and end papers. There are 32 illustrations all present. Note the list of illustrations gives 2 entries for opposite page 46. I assume this is an error. Only one is Present. Externally in very good condition with only very minor damage. Internally there is some foxing to end papers. The plates are all faded in a way that is difficult to explain. Images will be provided to illustrate this. The plate opposite page 164 together with page 164 and 179 have been professionally repaired probably long ago.
Albert Smith (1816-1860) was an English author, entertainer, and mountaineer. He wrote a number of novels and plays in the 1840's . He was also involved in show business and wrote shows and was involved in promoting events. He was an early contributor to Punch and organized Charles Dickens reading tour in 1858 and was planning further tours for Dickens when he died.
