Marbled front and back plus marbled end papers and page edges. Spine is green leather with gilt titles and six raised bands with decoration. Corners of covers severely rubbed and slightly bowed. Foxing of front and back free end-papers.
Book block, slightly discoloured at edges, is in pretty good condition considering its age.
This is an interesting tale of love,filial duty, affection and adventure plus attendant trials and tribulations set during the first Carlist wars in Spain.
The hero, Luis Herrera (the student of Salamanca) having left university hopes to win the hand of Rita, daughter of Count Villabuena, in marriage.
Unfortunately, The Carlist war intervenes and Luis fights with Isabella, the Queen Regent's army the Cristinos, while Rita's father is a supporter of the Carlists the followers of the Infante Carlos, later Charles V.
