The Tiwi: Their Art Myth and Ceremony

£25.00

Product description

The Tiwi tribe inhabit Melville Island off the northern coast of Australia. Having had relatively little contact with the outside world, the National Geographical Society in 1954 set up and for the following six months undertook a geographical and anthropological study. This anthropological study - "the art, myth and... burial ceremonies" are here recorded.

1958 Phoenix House hardback with no DJ. This is an ex library book so there are stamps on the ffep, opposite the Contents page and a pocket for a ticket on the inside of the front cover. There are supposed to be two colour illustrations but the frontispiece must have been tipped in and has disappeared without trace. There is one remaining colour illustration and a large number of black and white drawings and photographs. Apart from these admittedly fairly serious defects, this volume is otherwise in good condition with no other marks and good binding.

A valuable book here showing some of the scars of a library life but still in good enough condition to merit more than a "reading copy" classification
