This slim book is the libretto of Benjamin Britten's opera, a setting of Henry James' disquieting short story. It was produced at La Fenice in Venice in 1954. Myfanwy Piper, the wife of the painter John Piper co-operated with Benjamin Britten in this and other projects. The book does not include his musical score.
Boosey and Hawkes 1955 Card covers. There are two annotations in pencil and two in red biro the latter on pp 29.and 36. No other marks. Stapled with no rust marks. The price is marked to allow for the annotation.
This is quite a historic little book by two famous names in British creative endeavour.
