The Wesleyan-Methodist Magazine 1823.

£45.00

Product description

A bound edition of all twelve issues of this magazine in 1823. The content is what might be expected of early nineteenth century journals of this sort - biography of eminent Methodists, reviews of books, missionary news, sermons, obituaries and "religious intelligence". There is even some poetry.

The title page and the spine cover of this book are both missing so some of the information is inferential. It is thought that the publisher was J Kershaw and that this is volume two of the third series of this magazine. The binding is in leather and the spine cover is missing. The hinges are opened but surprisingly functional and tight. There is the single letter W on the reverse of the front cover. The next pages are missing and the first page is titled Preface. It has some of its upper corner missing. There is quite severe tanning of the first few pages but things improve and the remainder of the book is in quite good condition. The binding of the text block is firm. Some of the text is printed in two columns. There are some nice etched portraits. There is an index.

A historical document of considerable interest
