Translated from the Swedish by Velma Swanton Howard and published in the USA by Doubleday, Doran & Company in 1931. This is a delightful children's book with the 1906 illustrations by the author and intended as 'supplementary reading'. the idea being to introduce subjects that were both educational and entertaining. it soon gained a much wider audience.

Selma Ottilia Lovisa Lagerlöf (1858 – 1940) was a Swedish author. She was the first female writer to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, and is most widely known for this book.

This is the Marbacka edition published in 1931. There is a gift dedication on the frontispiece to 'Norman with love from Anne, Stockholm 1933' there is also a pencil price of $2.50.

We also have the sequel, Further Adventures of Nils listed in the online shop.

Rough cut pages. There is some shelf wear on the cover, with a faded/sunned mark on front. Some pages have slight foxing. But all pages are complete and the binding is in good condition.
