Product description

The full title is - Thoughts Upon Hare & Fox Hunting in a Series of Letters to a Friend, in which are given; ample directions for Erecting A Kennel, the Management of Hounds, and the Duties and Qualifications necessary for a Huntsman and Whipper-In also an account of the Moft Celebrated Dog Kennels in the Kingdom. This is a celebrated account by Beckford, a man of parts and a keen hunter. Wikipledia gives the date of first publication as 1781 but this is dated 1779 and is "A New Edition", implying that there had been a previous earlier edition. This edition has 20 engravings, a frontispiece and 19 others. All are present. Most are attributed to T Cook although Hewitt also figures.
Vennor and Hood 1796 New Edition. There is no disguising that this book if in very poor condition and decidedly fragile. The front board is totally missing. The rear board is firmly attached; it is covered with marbled paper and as cloth spine binding. There in no Spine cover. Several pages are lying detached from the main book: The frontispiece, front end paper and title page pp 327 -230 including the engraving of "Swinley Lodge". The pages are rough trimmed. There are no marks and the text block, with the exception of the pages above mentioned, is well bound.

In good condition commands prices up to four figures. In its present sorry state this is aching for someone with time, skill and interest to reconstitute it. As far as I can tell all the components are presentl
