Product description

3 volumes in green pebble grained cloth. Spines lettered in gilt with pages edged in gilt.

This is the 2nd edition published in 1864 by Tinsley Brothers of London.

There is an inscription in pencil on the front end paper of volume I.

Each volume is slightly cocked, with minor wear to the covers. Some marks on pages in Volume I with Volumes II and III being clean.

From our research this is a very rare set.

Mrs Henry Wood (Ellen Wood) was a very popular and quite prolific Victorian author, best known for her novel "East Lynne". She turned to writing when her husbands business failed and wrote more than 30 novels. Her works were translated into many languages including French and Russian. It is said that Tolstoy much admired her work. Her books are considered as "conservative and Christian" in tone.
