Trout and Salmon Fishing in Wales

£65.00

Product description

This little book has been much reproduced by the Print on Demand publishers. But this is an original first edition in surprisingly good condition.
The title page has a small illustration entitled "Salmon Leap at Pont Aberglasllyn". The habits of the salmon, The Trout, Grayling and Chub are described, the flies "peculiar to Welsh rivers" and then the principal "Angling Stations" of North and South Wales. At the end there is a glossary of Welsh language vocabulary. There are several pages of advertisements of Longman Brown and Co.
Longman , Rees, Orme, Brown, Green & Longman half leather hardback with no DJ. The boards are in green cloth and the leather spine and corner covers are also green. There is some wear to the outside of both hinges particularly the front one which is deficient in two places but remains functional. Gilt lettering and decoration of fish on the spine cover. Some edge wear particularly to the front upper corner.
I am a shade suspicious of this little book. The text block shows mild generalised tanning, as you might expect, but the end papers are very clean and bright. Also, although it is clearly published in 1834 I am a little at a loss to find that the catalogue at the rear is dated April 1842. It would seem to me that this is a rebound copy, but it is a nice little book nonetheless
