A Collection of Hymns for the People Called Methodists. Hardback in fair condition. Undated, but inscription on front pastedown is dated 1864. The inscription reads "John S. Harford from Louisa Harford Oct 8(?) th 1864 Blaise Castle". The Harfords were the owners of Blaise Castle Estate in Bristol, from the late 1789 to 1926. Blaise Castle House is now owned by Bristol City Council and run as a museum and art gallery. Black boards with gilt decorations and title to spine. Gilt edges to text block. Water stains front and back. General wear to edges and corners with some bumping. Top of the spine is chipped. Some grubbiness to the top of the text block. The paste downs and endpapers are stained and wrinkled. There is some light spotting on the first and last few pages. There are incipient gutter breaks at the rear of the title page and the penultimate page of the index, with a full gutter break at p288, where there is also some blue staining. Otherwise the book is generally clean throughout with sound binding.
