Windsor Castle - an Historical Romance - W. Harrison Ainsworth - Illustrated by George Cruikshank and Tony Johannot - 1844

£40.00

Product description

This nineteenth century historical romance is set in Windsor Castle and its environs. It revolves around the court of Henry VIII and many of the significant figures associated with the King's court. The book is illustrated by George Cruikshank and Tony Johannot, with designs on wood by W A Delamotte. With an engraved second title page and frontispiece engraving of the author.

Hardback book in fair to good condition for its age. The boards are covered in marbled paper with half leather binding. The joints on the spine are rubbed and there is general rubbing on the length of the spine and to the boards. The ends of spine and board corners are bumped. The top edge of the text block is stained dark brown and the other edges are age discoloured. The hinges are cracked but the boards are still well attached. Intermittent foxing and paper discolouration. The full page plates are badly browned around the edges, and in some cases water stained at the corners, though mainly this does not affect the images.

There is an owner's signature in ink on the front endpaper.
