With the Australian Aborigines

£39.99

Product description

Written by E Grant Watson and illustrated by Harry Whanslaw.
Published in London by George Philip & Son Limted, 1930. 71pp soft cover.

Book is in very good condition with green covers and black titles and there is an ink sketch of an aborigine throwing a boomerang towards a kangaroo.
Unusual section sewn binding in very good strong form and no floppiness with the book's structure. Dimensions: 283 x 123mm.
Some fraying to corners and yellowing to edges of cover. There is residue of a sticker on the cover and owner's name neatly written at top.

The New Prospect Series was aimed at educating the youth of the day and the style is reminiscent of older educational texts. Plenty of ink illustrations of Australian wildlife and aboriginal tools and weaponry.
The fifteen short chapters are perfect for bedtime reading; they cover the geography, hydrology and nutrition of the bush and there are chapters on magic, dance, fire, tools and weaponry, including a chapter on the bull-roarer (this is a device that uses wind to produce sounds).
There are several photographic plates.

Oxfam Bookshop Market Harborough

Oxfam is the UK's largest second hand bookseller. Oxfam bookshops offer a wider selection of books than most shops, from modern fiction and leisure interest to more specialist subjects, classics, and rare or collectable books. We also stock an attractive range of greetings cards and a good selection of stationery. Come and browse!

Could you help us by collecting donations from donors homes? Our shop receives many offers of generous donations that we have to turn down as we do not have volunteers able to collect. We would ask you to collect in your own car, at your convenience and reimburse your petrol costs. It might be a couple of times a month and would make a really big difference to our ability to make money.
