This is a collection of the major works of Sir Thomas Browne (1605-1682) who continues to be widely quoted by writers everywhere. He appears at No. 69 in the Oxford English Dictionary's list of top cited sources and has 775 entries in the OED of first usage of a word, His coinages, many of a scientific or medical nature, include ambidextrous, carnivorous, coma, computer, hallucination, insecurity, medical, prostate, suicide and veterinarian. The book has a glossary by William Swan Sonnenschein.
This hard cover book shows some signs of wear, including rubbing of cover edges, stains on the front cover and looseness of the binding in a few places. There are pencil marks on a number of pages. Interior pages are clear and legible. Publication date of the book is not noted but the preface refers to the work of previous editors dated 1835-6 and 1881-96.
