A Plan for Plymouth 1943

£24.99

Product description

This is a rather sad remnant of what must have been a pioneering publication. Plymouth suffered enormously during the blitz but even a couple of years before the end of hostilities an enormous co-ordinated effort was being made to produce a blueprint for regeneration. The fold out maps and panoramas and the larger map in the fold within the rear board are all present and seem in good condition. But the lower edged of the book has been in the damp and there is discolouration of the boards and cockling of the lower part of just about all the pages. .
Underhill hardback with no DJ. Boards in ochre cloth with green spine cover. Gilt "Golden Hide" on the front cover and faded lettering to spine. Inside the front hinge has sprung over its lower 5 cm while remaining functional. Front endpages a reproduction of an old map of the town. Pocket at rear board containing a folded map in colour which is well preserved. A great many photographs, mainly monochrome, and architectural drawings as well as maps.
A really impressive book but here is a pretty sorry state so we have to call it a reading copy only - and price it accordingly.
