Alpenflug

£19.99

Product description

Walter Mittelholzer (1894 - 1937) was a Swiss aviation pioneer. He was active as a pilot, photographer, travel writer, and also as one of the first aviation entrepreneurs. Throughout his life he published many books of aerial photographs and this book, printed in German, contains 191 magnificent b/w plates of the Alps, plus a section listing descriptions of each photograph. Mittelholzer writes about his aviation career, flying over the Alps and the practice of ariel photography, and there are two chapters by H Kempf, about his first flight with Oskar Bider over the Bernese Alps and a flight over the Matterhorn. The illustrated cover has only a few minor marks and faint light brown watermarks at the bottom of the front and on the spine; lower spine end lightly bumped. End papers have a few small foxing spots and some age discolouration and text block edges have a few light marks. The coloured frontispiece and the title page have partly split from the binding at the top, otherwise pages are tightly bound and unmarked.
