Carved Earth

£13.99

Product description

Carved Earth: Sculptural Ceramics brings together over thirty newly-commissioned artworks by the inspirational ceramicist Halima Cassell. Conceived by Shisha - the international agency for contemporary South Asian crafts and visual arts - in partnership with Bolton Museum and Art Gallery, Carved Earth is the third in a series of six solo exhibitions showcasing artists of South Asian decent, as part of Shisha's three-year Parampara Programme.

This unique publication features an enlightening essay and review by Emmanuel Cooper and Johnathan Harris respectively, both of which give the work a broad appeal. In her own words, Cassell's sumptuous ceramics embrace "obsessions of bringing into being the poetry of faceted forms and creations. They are buried in layers of forgotten history, like subcutaneous memories waiting to be plumbed; like the ocean deep they float in darkness waiting to be revealed by the light".
