Coloured Glasses

£39.99

About this item

5.5x8.6"sq - on good paper - in seriffed Dutch font - published with an Index by Dawson's of Pall Mall, a reprint of the 1951 publication by the Society of Glass Technology, Sheffield. The author is Professor and head of Department of Mineral Technology, Pennsylvania State College.

"In order to explain satisfactorily why certain substances possess colour, two factors have to be taken into consideration, first, the nature of the atoms involved, secondly, the chemical and electrical forces acting between them.
"For inorganic compounds, the first factor seems to be the more important, whereas the second plays the predominant role in the colour formation of organic substances.
"In this monograph it is not possible to enter into z detailed discussion of the role played by the electronic configuration ... " and "So far as the role of chemical forces between the atoms is concerned, we are still far from a general theory as to how they affect colour and light absorption."
These two subjects are the subjects of this monograph.
