Dartmoor century

£8.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

Dartmoor has been described as a timeless landscape and yet it has never been so much at risk from change. This book, published in association with the Dartmoor Trust, provides an opportunity to look back over the past hundred years or so, to reflect on the changes both time and man has wrought upon this precious landscape and to consider how best to preserve it for the future.

Without the benefit of photographs such comparisons would be impossible and we are indebted to the early photographers, such as Robert Burnard, whose collections are now of great historical significance. It is Burnard’s photographs which form the bulk of the two hundred images included in this book.

By including pictures taken at the same location, over a hundred years after the original photograph was taken, it is possible to see how much, or how little, the moorland landscape, its archaeological sites and buildings have changed. All these images help to open our eyes to the events that have taken place on Dartmoor over a century, and remind us of the importance of collecting and preserving photographs for this generation and future generations to enjoy.

This book is in an almost imacculate condition with only some negligible wearing on the dust jacket.
