1922 was a seminal year for English publications; Eliot's The Waste Land, Wittgenstein Tractatus Logico-philosophicus and James Joyce's Ulysses were all published for the first time. By chance the year of publication was also the year of birth of Richard Hamilton the celebrated artists. On the 80th birthday of both the artist and the book the British Museum sponsored an exhibition of the illustrations he had produced over some fifty years for the text. The British Council produced a paperback book with the same purpose. Stephen Coppel contributes an essay on Hamilton's Odyssey into Ulysses, charting his preoccupation over many years. There follows a series of portraits of characters with extracts from the book and then a large number of further black and white small illustrations associated with the book and its characters.
Paperback produced by the British Council in 2002. No ISBN The card cover is a little grubby but apart from this the condition is excellent. No marks and good binding.
A nice and appropriate commemoration of both creative artists, howbeit in differing fields.
