In Good Shape: Style in Industrial Products 1900 to 1960

£9.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

"Industrial design is the legitimate art of the twentieth century. Stephen Bayley's argument has grown out of a sense of outrage that the people he considers the true artists of our times - industrial designers concerned with product styling - are largely unknown to and unappreciated by the general public. Most people have heard of great artists such as Henry Moore or Picasso, but are entirely unaware of the names of the men who have created the familiar appearance of the everyday world. In Good Shape is an important and unique work of reference for students of twentieth-century industrial design; nowhere else is so much information on the designs and designers of the period available in such convenient and detailed form. It has an extensive historical introduction, followed by an anthology of edited texts about the nature of style and of the design process, written by prominent critics and designers. There are photographs of over a hundred consumer products designed during this period and whose appearance has either created a styling genre or established an unfluctuating visual solution. A list of biographies of the designers who contributed to the look of these machines is followed by a critical biography."

Book in very good condition with some wear to the dust jacket.
