Product description

FIRST EDITION: Square shaped black cloth covered book with gilt titles on the spine. The cover and the dust jacket are both in very good condition with only very minor signs of rubbing to the dust jacket. Internally the book is clean, bright and tightly bound. Inside both the front and back covers and the end papers there is a stylised map of Sicily. The dust jacket is no price clipped. The book is fairly heavy. This book contains some 70 paintings by some of the best-known contemporary artists, including Julian Bell, Hugh Buchanan, Lucy Raverat, Alain Senez and John Pearce and were chosen to immediately evoke the key note settings of the novel "The Leopard". There are written contributions by the artists and three essays.
Based on the exhibition at Francis Kyle Gallery, London, of paintings inspired by the novel "The Leopard", this book tells the story of the last Prince of Salina as he presides over the decline of his thousand-year old dynasty. The book includes works of art by other artists, covering a range of techniques, styles and interpretations of the theme.
