198 pages. Hardback with light brown cloth boards, titles in dark brown to spine in very good condition. Bumping to spine at top edge. Dustjacket in good condition, edgeworn and chipping along top edges. A small tear of 1 cm across top of spine and a small piece missing, similarly a small piece missing at bottom of spine. Dustjacket a little grubby, sunning to spine but title still legible. Textblock in very good condition and illustrated throughout in black and white. Numerous examples of calligraphic technique reproduced on squared paper. Chapter headings in calligraphic script. Includes references and a chapter on materials and resources. Hand-drawn cartoon dedication in black and white on front endpaper by the author ('Marc' just visible on scroll held by angel), dated 1985. Foreword by Paul Freeman. Published simultaneously in the UK and US in 1980.
