Mikhail Vrubel

£34.99

Product description

Paintings, Graphic Works, Sculptures, Book Illustrations, Decorative Works, Theatrical Designs.

At its annual exhibition of 1906 the Salon d'Automne in Paris allotted thirteen halls to works of Russian art, ranging from icons to paintings by contemporary masters. One entire room was devoted to the works of Mikhail Vrubel, an artist who by this time was already incurably ill and had lost his sight.
The Vrubel room was usually empty. However, the memoirs of Sergei Sudeikin, a Russian artist living in Paris at the time, contain a most peculiar observation: Pablo Picasso would 'stand for hours on end' before Vrubel's paintings.

Published in the USSR and translated by John Greenfield and Valery Dereviaghin.

Hard back book with dust jacket and card slipcase. There is a little damage to the dust jacket on the back, at the bottom of the spine and a 3cm closed tear on the lower edge of the rear cover. The book itself is in beautiful condition and would be classed as like new.
