An introduction discussing photographic techniques when capturing landscapes in winter. Then the plates, each with a descriptive, and often technical, paragraph of text.

Nine of British hills; 17 of the Alps; 8 of the Canadian Rockies; 13 from the Himalayas, including some from the 1930's Everest expeditions, of which Smythe was part.

Ex-library, stamps, label remnants. No jacket, marks to covers. All browned. Many small and light marks, to text pages and blank margins. Complete and all legible. The images remain in very good condition.
