Tapestries and Mosaics of Marc Chagall at the Knesset

£55.00 Out Of Stock

Product description

Tudor, New York, 1973, first edition, hardback with DJ, 4to, 143pp, illustrated in colour and black and white.

Illustrated with 50 remarkable plates in radiant colour, this lovely volume tells and shows how Chagall rose to the challenge of transforming the blank walls and floors of the State Reception Hall of the Knesset and produced some of the most beautiful and original works in modern art. It presents an insightful account of how a great artist and two teams of renowned craftsmen joined forces to create new masterpieces in the ancient arts of tapestry design and weaving, and of mosaic work - a collaboration that went far beyond mutual admiration.

On the front free endpaper is a plate signed by Yitzhak Shamir, Speaker of the Knesset (see photo). Yitzhak Shamir was later Prime Minister of Israel.

Very good condition. Beige cloth boards are clean and undamaged. Pages are clean and unmarked and text is bright. The binding is tight. The DJ is also in very good condition with just slight signs of rubbing to the extremities.

We are a specialist shop nestled in the heart of Jesmond, a lovely residential area of Newcastle Upon Tyne. We opened in July 2010 and have on offer 5,000 books, 2,000 records, CDs and games as well as sheet music, cards and stationery within the shop. Our shop has high ceilings and a nice, bright and airy feel. We are gaining a very good reputation in the Rare and Collectable books and vinyl community, but also do a roaring trade in contemporary fiction and modern non-fiction. We also organise live music and book events and aim to be a hub of culture in this wonderfully tight-knit community.
