The Bayeux Tapestry: the complete tapestry in colour

£30.00

Product description

Published 1985 by Thames & Hudson. With introduction, description and commentary by David Wilson. Large format. Grey cloth board covers with white lettering. Spine is slightly faded. With slipcase with coloured decoration and white lettering. Some marks (foxing?) and scuffs to slipcase. Book is in good condition throughout. 73 numbered plates in full colour of tapestry plus many illustrations in monochrome.

The Bayeux Tapestry is one of the most numinous monuments of European history. This unique embroidery is one of the most interesting and reliable sources on the telling of the events which lead up to the Norman Conquest and the Battle of Hastings in text and picture. It is presented with lively imagination and an originality which still teases the eye and adds enlightenment to the most traumatic events in English history. A running text in simple Latin identifies the various scenes. The purpose of this book is to produce a complete colour reproduction of the Tapestry to the highest present-day standards and to summarise the state of knowledge concerning it.

Due to weight, there are additional postage delivery costs. See below. Still a cheaper alternative to going to France to see the real thing - in a scrum of other tourists!
