The British Violin: The Catalogue of the 1998 Exhibition

£500.00

Product description

Subtitled '400 Years of Violin & Bow Making in the British Isles'.

Published in November 2000 by the British Violin Making Association. A scarce title, this is a sumptuously illustrated book, with black & white and colour photographs.

The British Violin presents biographies of the leading viol, violin and bow makers working in Britain over the last 400 years.
The biographies are concise, informative and contain substantial new research findings, bringing life and colour to many names known previously only from rare instrument labels. Grouped historically, they provide a clear account of the developments in the profession over four centuries, coming fully up to date with a selection of contemporary makers.
The second half of the book illustrates characteristic instruments and bows of each maker( as featured in the 1998 British Violin exhibition). Large scale colour illustrations, supported by measurements and descriptive detail, are presented alphabetically for easy reference.
This is an indispensable reference book on the contribution of British craftsmen and women to the development of bowed stringed instruments.

In superb condition throughout. There are a couple of light indents on the dust jacket, otherwise in 'as new' condition.

Please feel free to contact the Witney shop, if you would like further information or photographs.

The item will be dispatched by courier.
