Product description

A landscape format hardback book published in Istanbul in 1992 about palaces which stood on the site of the present day Ceragan Palaces which overlooks where the Bosphorus and the Sea of Marmara meet. The book has a bright blue cloth cover with gilt titles on the front and the spine. It is in very good condition with no bumping to the corners. The dust jacket is protected with a plastic cover and is also in very good condition with just some minor dents to the back. There is an inscription on the fep which is signed by David Miliband and dated 2010, it is not known which David Miliband signed the book. Internally the book is clean, bright and tightly bound. It is illustrated with many full colour and black and white photographs, portraits, line drawings and a floor plan. The author of the book, Celik Gulersoy worked for many years for the Turkish Tourist and Automobile Association and spent thirty years studying the present palace and its predecessors. He was also the founder of the Istanbul Library from which he extracted some of his material, particularly that written by foreign visitors to the palace. A very heavy book.

The current palace on this site was built in 1871 and when this book was written was in the process of restoration.
