The Herschel Album

£14.99

Product description

John Frederick William Herschel gave advice to the British inventor of the negative-positive photographic process, W.H. Fox Talbot, and was said to have coined these photographic terms. iI was Herschel who discovered that hyposulphite of soda 'fixed' photographs, which was an essential ingredient of the new art and science.
Herschel introduced Julia Margaret Cameron to the new photography and became her hero and lifelong friend. Mrs Cameron made her name in photography, a pioneer of the art. She assembled an album of photographs for Herschel in 1864, taking great care that it would be the best possible. This thin booklet contains 29 prints, about a third of the original Herschel prints.

This softcover copy is in good condition. Outer cover rubbed and slightly marked. Previous owner's name inside front cover. Inside prints very good and clean, with no marks.
