The Power of Portraiture

£19.99

Product description

Large paperback book which is an exhibition catalogue from New Zealand. The top corner of the front cover is bent outwards but not creased. On the back a very small part of the lamination is coming loose at the lower corner and the exposed paper cover is a little rubbed around the edges. All other corners are good, the spine is very slightly sunned and there is some fading along the hinge. The cover illustration is a portrait of Sir Edmund Hillary. Internally the book is clean, bright and tightly bound. The exhibition this catalogue illustrates took place in Auckland from 28 November 2008 until 24 January 2009. The book was written by the curator of the exhibition Erin Griffey. All the illustrations of the paintings are in full colour.
"Published to coincide with an exhibition of portraits in Auckland and Wellington, The Power of Portraiture comprises 40 portraits of major public figures, male and female, Maori and Pakeha, conservative and liberal, from a number of different professional backgrounds. The accompanying text provides a wealth of art historical, cultural and historical insight and invites critical reflection on New Zealand's ideals of leadership."
