On the 40th Anniversary of the longest-running serial in the world, Peggy Archer and Jack Woolley's wedding was a fitting milestone in Ambridge life, a day to be commemorated and treasured. At the time, Gillian Reynolds proposed a toast :-
"When old friends marry we smile and say it was bound to happen. It wasn't like that for Peggy and Jack. The first time he proposed, back in 1974, she turned him down. She was a widow, her three children grown, her own life just starting to open. He was divorced, well off, uncertain of where he fitted into Ambridge.
"The years since have seen them grow together, at work at Grey Gables, at home in the village. In autumn 1990, when he asked again, only one answer was possible."
To Jack and Peggy - Congratulations !
