( full title is " The Last of the Mohicans ", by James Fenimore Cooper , read by Peter Marinker )
Set during the French-Indian war of the 1750s, "The Last of the Mohicans" tells the tale of Natty Bomppo - or "Hawkeye" as he is best-known in this adventure - a middle-aged Native American working for the British, who accompanies his two Delaware friends, Chingachgook and his son Uncas. This pair are the last of the Mohican tribe.
The story tells of Brutal battles between the British with their own Native American allies, versus the French with their Iroquois-tribe allies, captures, narrow escapes, and revenges. The beauty of the unspoilt wilderness, and the Native American sorrow at its destruction, are also themes that are widely explored, in the novel.
