This thought of as a more detailed and illuminating biography of the writer's grandfather than the biography written by Hallam Tennyson, the poet's son.
The dust jacket is present although somewhat distressed, being in 4 pieces. The front sheet has a triangle of material missing from the top left corner extending 2 cm across and 2 cm down in a roughly triangular shape, as may be seen in the image. It is completely detached from the spine and rear part, the lower third of the spine is not present, and the rear part of the jacket is itself detached from the fold in. The book is bound in blue cloth with gilt lettering and is in very good condition apart from minor toning of edges of the text block, also to ffep and rfep . All text pages are clean and legible, there are several b/w photo plates and a comprehensive index at the rear of the book.
There is also a small sheet of paper, 15cm by 10cm, printed "WITH THE AUTHOR'S COMPLIMENTS". It is not possible to prove whether or not it pertains to this particular publication.
