Blue boards with gilt print. Cover has general wear marks; colour faded around edges and almost completely from the spine; spine ends bumped; top of spine has small tear with loss approx. 4mm; corners lightly bumped. Text block edges browned and have speckled foxing. The majority of inside pages have foxing to the edges; the photographic plates are clean.
Front end paper has a former owner's personal book-plate attached, featuring a printed name (Sophy Edmonds) and old-fashioned photographs of kittens in black and white.
A First edition.

Dame Madge Kendal GBE (15th March 1848 - 14th September 1935), born as Margaret Shafto Robertson, was an English actress of the Victorian and Edwardian eras, best known for her roles in Shakespeare and English comedies. Together with her husband, W. H. Kendal, she became an important theatre manager.
