East End Underworld

£29.99

Product description

Arthur Harding, who grew up in the "Jago", the most famous criminal slum of late Victorian London, was in turn a ragamuffin, hard man gangster, prison inmate, police collaborator and family man. Highly intelligent despite his lack of education, strong as an ox, Arthur relates the relationships between all the various East End communities but mainly the criminals and their relationship with the police.
The book is produced from tape recorded reminiscences of Arthur himself.
Apart from slight water stains to the top edge of the front end papers, and a little discolouration to the top edges of the dust jacket at front and back, book and dust jacket are in excellent condition, with tight block, clear text, fascinating b/w photographs and glossy pictorial jacket design.
