Emma Spaulding Bryant Letters and Diaries 1860-1900

£9.99

About this item

Emma Spaulding's life might have been the simple story of a 19th century woman in rural Maine. Instead, wooed by the ambitious John Emory Bryant, she became the Civil War bride of a Republican carpetbagger intent on reforming the South. This is her story.

This particular copy is in very good condition. Its exterior is clean and clear with little signs of wear. There is just a slight mark on the spine from a previous sticker.

As for the interior, it is spotless - free of all markings, writing and highlighting.

Overall, a fascinating book of Emma's letters which richly convey not only the difficulties she encountered but her own journey towards reconciling faith and feminism. Inspirational.
