About this item
Looking at the personal interaction between each first lady from Martha Washington to Laura Bush and the mass media of her day, Maurine H. Beasley traces the growth of the institution of the first lady as part of the American political system.
This particular copy is in very good condition. Its exterior shows minimal signs of wear - a few red marks on the back cover (see photo)
As for the interior, its pages are generally clean and free of any writing, highlighting or markings. A few lines in the book are underlined in pencil but can be easily rubbed out.
Overall, a highly interesting and current book. Beasley has shown how media coverage of first ladies, often limited by stereotypical ideas about women, has not adequately reflected the importance of their role. She is here to set the record straight.
