Francis of Assisi - The Way of Poverty and Humility

About this item

Michael Glazier, Delaware, USA, 1989. Paperback. Book Condition: Very Good. Various (illustrator). 1st Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Book Description : 1989, 1st Edition paperback (Volume 8 in the series of mystics designed to give a deeper and clearer understanding of the ways of Christianity); 135 pages with b/w illustrations and bibliography; VG. This is a compact biography of one of the most talked about saints whose appeal extends beyond confessional persuasions. More than the saint of animals and creatures (and perhaps ecology), Saint Francis inspired the Franciscan order, and this order has taken a principal role in practical beneficence in the United States. William Cook tries to discover the real Francis, his true charisma, and his religious outlook. His biography of Francis is engaging but scholarly, and whilst acknowledging the best modern studies of this saint's life, his main sources of knowledge have been the contemporary accounts written by enlightened acquaintances of the time (rather than the hagiographies written to quell controversy). The author also makes a resource out of the pictures of narrative cycles which help to reveal so much about the poor man, his way of life and his individual Christian credo. Book Condition : Very Good : slight creasing to top corners of covers; several insignificant marks to top of back cover; only mild rubbing to covers and only minor shelf wear; slight shelf knock to top corner affecting in a mild way the top corners of pages; otherwise pages with only minor toning and in very good order; the body of the binding is tight like new.
