Glorious Liberty - From Dartmoor to Calvary

£20.00

Product description

Glorious Liberty: Dartmoor to Calvary by Stuart Wood is a biography by a short-term member of the Oxford Group. It was first printed in 1933, with a new edition in 1935. This edition is the second impression from 1937. Besides the body of the biography, Wood has written an introductory note as well as a supplementary note to the new edition.

Glorious Liberty is a paperback with a beige cover. In the centre of the front cover is the full title and the author's name in black, while the spine has the title and name also in black. Being a light colour, the cover is visibly grubby and stained. The corners are bumped, while the head and tail cap of the spine are torn to the extent that the text block is visible. Around four creases run the length of the spine, the surface of which is stained. There is a quarter-inch scraped tear on the back cover. The page edges are discoloured with some dog-ears, but the faces are clean with only a little foxing.

The binding is tight and the hinges and endpapers are secure. Wood has signed the inner endpaper, 'Yours in his fellowship, Stuart Wood, June 28th 1938.' Unfortunately, a small amount of fresh ink has transferred to the back of the front cover. A previous owner has signed the title page with, what looks like, 'h. Kitcher.' Additionally, the title page tells us that Wood is also the author of Shades of the Prison House' and 'Strange Triumph'.
