The story of J.C. Jacobsen, founder of Carlsberg, is a many faceted drama. it is the history of his impressive career as an industrialist who believed strongly in the application of science to his endeavors. J.C. Jacobsen was an admirer of Louis Pasteur, who visited the Carlsberg laboratories in Copenhagen. Jacobsen was also a politician, affiliated to the National Liberal Movement and was one of the most outstanding philanthropists of his time.
Throughout his life, Jacobsen was a keen traveler who felt at home everywhere in Europe. At the age of 75 he died on one of his many travels, in Rome, on 2nd of April 1887.
This biography portrays the people around him and his family life, which was characterized by his strength of will and bitter conflict with his son Carl. It is a biography which contains the stuff from which novels, films and TV series are made.
