Memories of a Young Life in the Yorkshire Dales

£9.99

Product description

This book was written to give an insight into the life of a young boy growing up in the Yorkshire Dales during the 1920s and 1930s. It highlights the breathtaking natural beauty of the landscape combined with the imagination of the children within it. Later, it bears witness to the rapid deterioration of family life at the loss of a father and the struggles of a child dealing with the difficulties of growing into adulthood perhaps too soon; and the start of his working life in a local mill - a harsh existence with relatively few rewards.

Nevertheless this story is an uplifting one. As the book draws to a closes, the young man meets the girl of his dreams and so begins the rest of his life, a story of which is recounted in the second volume of Ernest Patchett's remarkable autobiography, A Life Story Full of Fun, Laughter and Some Tears, also published by The Pentland Press.
