About this item

Hutchinson 1st Edition 1970 Hardback.

Rare collectible. Yellowing to pages, white mark to page top edge but otherwise hardboard cover and pages in excellent condition. D/j yellowing with wear to edges. This is in very good condition for age.

Bobby Seale was one of the founders of the Black Panther Party and he became its chairman in the 1960s. He underwent FBI surveillance and was one of the original "Chicago Eight" defendants charged with conspiracy and inciting to riot, in the wake of the 1968 Democratic National Convention, in Chicago. While serving his four-year sentence for this Seale was put on trial again in 1970 in the New Haven Black Panther trials where he was charged with murder. Whist in prison there he wrote about himself, about the Black Panther Party, and about its leadership and this whole book is based on tapes he recorded for this during this time. The charges against Seale were eventually dropped and he was released from prison in 1972. Bobby Seale's story will be of great interest to anyone interested in learning more of the Black Panther movement and the political climate of the time. This book also includes notes by Nigel Fountain for this publication and is presented in a newspaper style format featuring fascinating black and white photographs of Huey P Newton and Bobby Seale.
