Southey's Life of Nelson

£24.99

Product description

Originally published in 1813, The Life of Horatio, Lord Nelson is one of the classics of early biography. The author, Robert Southey, was appointed Poet Laureate of England in the same year that he published this book.
Still regarded as England's greatest naval hero, Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson is here depicted by a contemporary biographer, with access to many of the people who knew Nelson intimately. Bound in brown cloth with gilt and black lining, titling and picture on cover and spine. There is a small amount of age fading on the top left of the rear cover, also bumping to corners and chipping at head and base of spine, otherwise the book is in remarkable condition for its age.
There is slight foxing to some of the pages, Pages 119 to 122 are detached from the book, pages 343-346 are almost detached. The colourful book plate on the inside of the front cover commemorates its award as a prize in 1886. There are 2 small stains on the inside of the front cover, one at the bottom of the presentation plate.
All text is clear, as are the excellent b/w illustrated plates.
