Book Description : 1964, 1st edition of this translation; burgundy hardback (no dustjacket); 256 pages with an introduction by William Yeomans SJ; endpapers as maps; Good. When a series of misfortunes struck Alphonsus Rodriguez' life, he turned to God as he had never done before. Unable to become a priest, he eventually took on the humble tasks of a Jesuit lay brother. A great many people visited his porter's lodge for counsel and direction including the distinguished Jesuit Peter Clavier. This autobiography, is in reality, his Accounts of Conscience from 1606 to 1617. They recount his everyday spiritual experiences; his fears, temptations, and difficulties; and his reaching for a more sanctified life. Rodriguez was eventually canonised in the 19th century. Book Condition : Good : bumping to head and foot of spine cloth and some denting of corner tips; burgundy cloth has the odd small mark/sign of rubbing at boards; gilding at spine is bright and intact; a scattering of minor foxing to top/front face which does not affect inside pages; inner pages have some yellowing generally; half-title page has a stamp crossed through with black felt pen and this has left an ink mark to the opposite free endpaper; page 25 is creased diagonally at the top half; otherwise pages in good repair; binding is secure and strong.
